RC Strasbourg Alsace have rejected a second offer worth €14m from RC Lens for promising midfielder Habib Diarra (19), according to a report from L’Équipe.
The 19-year-old Senegalese midfielder is the latest Strasbourg sensation to break through after Mohamed Simakan and Youssouf Fofana. Diarra registered three goals and three assists in 31 appearances last season. Despite his young age, he proved instrumental in Strasbourg’s fight to avoid relegation in the second half of the campaign. Diarra is tied to Strasbourg with his contract set to expire in 2027.
Last week, Strasbourg rejected a €11m bid from Lens for their prized asset. The Artois side upped their offer, but it is still not enough for the Alsatians. The French publication indicates that BlueCo, the American consortium that owns Strasbourg and Chelsea, greatly values Diarra and would like to retain him. Nevertheless, the opportunity to play the Champions League group stages with Lens may appeal to Diarra. Lens are in the market to strengthen their midfield. They are set to announce the signing of Basel’s Andy Diouf. However, their club captain Seko Fofana, arguably one of Ligue 1’s best midfielders, is on the verge of completing a move to PIF-funded Saudi outfit Al-Nassr.
