According to reports from Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham right-back Djed Spence may be headed to Ligue 1 on loan to Rennes. This would be a move that takes him only to the end of the season giving the Ligue 1 side no option to buy. It was also reported that the 22-year-old defender has personally agreed to the move.
Rennes are pursuing the defender in the wake of captain Hamari Traoré’s injury. The England youth international plays a much different role on the field than Traoré. The Tottenham right-back, while skilled in attack, is a bigger defender, making him less elusive than the Bretons’ captain.
However, his size and speed make him deadly in space. When adding his ability to score and what he brings defensively he is a highly skilled fullback. A talent like Spence wants to be on the field – but this season he has only made 4 appearances for the Premier League club. He should certainly find the playing time he is looking for with Rennes, with Traoré set to miss a month due to injury.
