Toulouse closing in on César Gelabert deal

Toulouse are set to complete the signing of Spanish midfielder César Gelabert (22), according to a report from Fabrizio Romano. Gelabert is set to sign a four-year deal with the 2023 Coupe de France winners. Courtesy of their Cup win, Toulouse have qualified for next season’s Europa League group stage. The Spaniard will be a free agent next June and Toulouse seem to have moved quickly to secure his signing. Romano adds that the Real Madrid youth product had two bids from Spanish clubs but eventually chose the Philippe Montanier-led side’s sporting project.

Gelabert played 23 LaLiga 2 games with Mirandés this season, registering two goals and four assists. The Spaniard missed the start of the season after sustaining an ACL injury last year. Toulouse were in the market for a midfielder with all of Stijn Spierings (27), Branco van den Boomen (27) and Brecht Dejaegere (31) all expected to depart the club at the end of their contracts next June. Moroccan winger Zakaria Aboukhlal (23) is also set to leave the club after sparking controversy lately.
