Bundesliga clubs Wolfsburg and Bayer Leverkusen have both submitted bids to Stade Rennais for their Croatian playmaker Lovro Majer (25), according to a report from Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano. The 25-year-old Croatia international is expected to part ways with Les Rouge et Noir after a difficult past season in Brittany. The central midfielder was part of the Croatia squad that went to clinch third place at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Majer himself registered two goals and six assists in 32 games played with Rennes.
Despite a contract that runs until 2027, Majer is expected to be shown the door at Rennes with the Bretons looking to revamp their attacking force. Lorient playmaker Enzo Le Fée (23) and Nantes’ versatile forward Ludovic Blas (25) are set to sign for Stade Rennais for a combined €40m outlay. Romano understands that negtciations are still at an early stage with Rennes. The Italian reporter hints that Wolfsburg and Bayer Leverkusen are pushing for a move to materialise. The prospect of playing Europa League football under the guidance of former midfield maestro Xabi Alonso may very well appeal to a technically gifted player like Majer.
