Bayern Munich targeting Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen as Théo Hernandez alternative

According to Sports Zone, Bayern Munich are targeting Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen (22) as a potential alternative to Théo Hernandez (26) should they fail in their pursuit of the AC Milan left-back. Should Alphonso Davies (23) make an expected move to Real Madrid, the Bundesliga champions are in the market for a left-sided defender.

Théo Hernandez has been earmarked as Bayern’s priority replacement for Davies, according to Sports Zone. Nevertheless, a move for the France international is thought to be difficult with the flying full-back happy in Milan and unimpressed by the time his brother spent in Bavaria.

With a move for Hernandez complicated, Maatsen has emerged as a potential alternative. The Chelsea full-back has impressed during his time in the Bundesliga while on loan with Borussia Dortmund. Maatsen has made 12 appearances since joining Dortmund on loan, scoring 1 goal and registering 2 assists.

Newcastle and Dortmund also interested

Bayern Munich are not alone in their pursuit of the 22-year-old. Newcastle United and Borussia Dortmund are also showing a strong interest in Maatsen, according to Sports Zone. With Chelsea having a plethora of left-backs at the club, a bidding war could take place for the Dutch international this summer.
