Didier Deschamps unconcerned by Kylian Mbappé’s PSG situation

Since announcing his departure from Paris Saint-Germain, Kylian Mbappé (25) has seen his game time significantly decrease, however, just months away from the Euros, Didier Deschamps is unconcerned by his captain’s lack of minutes.

Mbappé was previously untouchable. However, he told PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi that he would not be renewing beyond the end of the season. As a result, he will leave on a free transfer in the summer, with all signs pointing towards Real Madrid. Since then, his game time has reduced significantly.

Whilst the Frenchman remains undroppable in the UEFA Champions League, he has not started in two of the last four games in Ligue 1. In the other two, he has been subbed off, including against formative club AS Monaco when he was controversially hooked at half-time.

Deschamps concerned about Kolo Muani?

However, Deschamps is not concerned and even jokingly thanked Luís Enrique. “It’s super, magnificent,” responded the France manager ironically in relation to PSG’s management of Mbappé. “Given the number of games he has played… the element of freshness in a big competition is key. It’s good that they have game time, but playing every three days… there will be fatigue. I am not at all worried about Kylian’s rhythm. These are the manager’s choices,” he added.

However, there is perhaps more concern about Randal Kolo Muani, who has failed to flourish since his summer move from Eintracht Frankfurt. He has started only eight games in Ligue 1 this season and played a combined total of just 15 minutes across two legs against Real Sociedad in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.

“But he could give a bit more game time to Kolo Muani,” said Deschamps after expressing a lack of concern for Mbappé’s lack of minutes.
