‘It depends on the sun’ – Luis Enrique remains noncommittal about starting Kylian Mbappé

Ahead of Paris Saint-Germain’s fixture against Stade de Reims, Luis Enrique deflected questions about whether or not he would play Kylian Mbappé (25).

PSG’s 2-1 victory (4-1 on aggregate) over Real Sociedad during the week had claimed progression to the quarter-final of the Champions League on the back of a sensational performance from the star. Mbappé scored both goals as Les Parisiens cruised into the next round.

And for ninety minutes, it had momentarily relieved the growing tension surrounding Luis Enrique’s choice during league games to limit the star’s involvement

Luis Enrique dismisses Kylian Mbappé questions

Since Mbappé announced to the club that he’d be leaving at the end of the season, he has seen his minutes limited. Benched ahead of the FC Nantes game, and then substituted early in both the Stade Rennais and AS Monaco matches that followed.

When questioned before the Reims match, Luis Enrique continued to dismiss the questions and remained vague on whether he was going to continue to limit Mbappé’s minutes.

The manager laughed off the question of whether or not we’d see Mbappé start with a joke, that his decision would “Depend on the sun. Whether it’s hot or not.”

And it appears the sun wasn’t favouring Mbappé as he once again starts on the bench.
