Paulo Fonesca reminds Leny Yoro to remain ‘humble’ as summer move awaits

Lille OSC manager Paulo Fonesca has reminded Leny Yoro (18) to remain “humble” before the summer bidding war begins for his services.

The defenders had been heavily linked with a move away from Les Dogues during the winter transfer window after Paris Saint-Germain once again reinstated their interest in securing the centre-back’s signature, while Manchester United and Bayern Munich were also rumoured to be pursuing a transfer.

Despite the attempts to convince Lille to part with Yoro, the side remained unwilling to release with their starting centre-back midway through the season as they pursue a Champions League position and progress into the latter stages of the Europa Conference League.

‘Another level’ for Yoro?

Yoro had recently hired super agent Jorge Mendes to be his representative, and with one year left on his contract, it seems inevitable that this summer will see Lille receive a substantial transfer fee for the superstar in waiting.

However, in a press conference before Lille’s game away to Olympique Lyonnais in the Coupe de France, Fonesca spoke about the defender’s circumstances, “it’s not easy for a young player who arrives at this moment very quickly. I spoke with the player, I think the main thing is that he stays focused on what he has to do this season.”

Fonseca continued, “He must continue to be balanced and humble… if he wants to have the opportunity to play at another level, he has to continue like this, doing things well.”
