Marseille’s pursuit of Sergio Conceicao progressing slowly

Olympique de Marseille have resumed talks with former FC Porto manager Sergio Conceicao following an initial breakdown in talks in the middle of last week, reports L’Équipe

The Portuguese initially wanted some time to rest following an emotional final few weeks at Porto, winning the Portuguese cup and seeing his relationship with the board break down, leading to him being replaced by his assistant Vitor Bruno.

Having seen their primary target, Conceicao’s compatriot Paolo Fonseca, choose Serie A giants AC Milan as his next port of call, Marseille are keen not to rush the talks and also keep their options open should talks not come to fruition, having learnt from the experience of trying (and failing) to recruit Argentinian coach Marcelo Gallardo last summer, instead falling back on Spaniard Marcelino, who subsequently resigned from the post just three months into the season and was replaced by Italian Gennaro Gattuso.
