Thierry Henry: ‘Let’s be happy that Kylian Mbappé is French. Everyone envies us.’

Whilst Kylian Mbappé’s (25) presence at the Olympic Games later this year is looking increasingly improbable, Thierry Henry waxed lyrical about the France captain during a wide-ranging interview with Le Parisien

It is Mbappé’s desire to participate in the Olympics this summer, which will take place in Paris. However, it is a dream that is slipping through his fingers. Real Madrid have already informed the FFF that they won’t be releasing their French internationals for the tournament, which does not fall within FIFA’s calendar.

Mbappé isn’t a Real Madrid player yet, but he is certainly expected to be after he informed Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi of his upcoming departure. “The only thing that we know about Kylian is that he’s leaving [PSG]. It doesn’t matter where he goes, but if he goes to Real, we know that they won’t let their players leave,” Henry told Le Parisien.

Whilst Henry, who will manage the France team at the upcoming Olympics, is unlikely to be able to rely on Mbappé, he nonetheless described the PSG forward as a “monster”, adding that other countries are envious of France for possessing such a talent.

“We’re speaking about a monster here. Let’s be happy that Kylian is French. Everyone envies us. Every time I go abroad, people tell me, ‘You’re so lucky in France to have a player like him.’ Here, even if we talk about his qualities, there is always a negative remark because he lifted his little finger because he’s done this and not that. But abroad, they really envy us!” said Les Bleuets’ manager.
