‘We were sh*t’ – Angelo Fulgini after Lens’ defeat to Metz

RC Lens’ hopes of securing UEFA Champions League football for next season were dealt another blow. After last weekend’s draw against relegation candidates Le Havre AC, FC Metz came from behind against Les Sang et Or on Friday evening to secure a potentially crucial three points in their quest for survival in Ligue 1. Post-match, Lens midfielder Angelo Fulgini did not hold back in his criticism.

Lens began the season in dreadful form, finding themselves bottom of the table by the first international break at the. It took until 24th September for Franck Haise’s side to pick up the first win of the season. Lens gradually made their way up the table, slowly putting themselves in contention to secure Champions League football again next season. However, the club have lost three of their last four matches in Ligue 1; their last win came on 9th March.

Haise takes responsibility for Lens’ torrid run

The 2-1 defeat to Metz constituted a particularly heavy blow. “We were sh*t. We scored the first goal, we were controlling the match and then we showed smugness, it was nonsense; we deserved this defeat. We completely stopped playing,” Fulgini told Prime Video Sport

Haise, speaking post-match, took responsibility, not only for the defeat against Metz but also for the bad run that the club are on. “It is always the manager that has to take responsibility for the results,” he added.
