‘You’re going to cause trouble for us again’ – Kylian Mbappé meets with Emmanuel Macron and the Emir of Qatar

Kylian Mbappé (25) met with French President Emmanuel Macron and the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, at a gala at the Élysée Palace Tuesday evening.

The France captain was invited to the gala as part of the Emir of Qatar’s visit to Paris. 120 people were invited to the gala, including Nicolas Sarkozy and Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi. The presence of the latter led to speculation as to the motivation behind Mbappés’s invitation, with rumours about talks of a last-ditch contract extension offer swirling. The rumours come amidst reports that the PSG forward informed Al-Khelaifi that he will be leaving the club upon the expiry of his contract at the end of the season. Those reports have been rejected by multiple sources.

Mbappé is therefore expected to join Real Madrid in the summer, with La Liga president Javier Tebas telling L’Équipe that he is 99% sure that the deal will happen.

Within this context, Mbappé met with Macron and the Emir of Qatar at the Élysée Palace, the residence of the French president, on Tuesday. Upon his arrival, Mbappé spoke with the two political figures, with Macron stating: “You’re going to cause trouble for us again.”

Good luck,” added the Emir of Qatar as Mbappé walked away in images broadcast by RMC SportThe nature of the discussion remains a mystery, but Mbappé’s importance, not only on the pitch for France and PSG but off the pitch and in the most elite spheres of international politics, remains as clear as ever.
